How our passport photo maker works

  1. Take or upload a photo

Use your camera or choose a file. It is read and measured on your own device — nothing is sent anywhere at this point.

  2. See every requirement checked

Head height, eye line, sharpness, lighting, expression and background, each measured against the published figures and reported one by one.

  3. Get the file, if it passes

A correctly sized photo by email, and a printable sheet with cut guides if you want one. If it does not pass, we do not sell it to you.

Photo Express: the passport photo booth that shows its working

Photo Express turns an ordinary photograph into one that meets the published requirements for a passport, visa or identity document — and shows you the measurements it used to decide. You can check a photo as many times as you like without paying, and you only buy once the result is one you can see.

Quick. Choose your document, add a photo, and the measurement runs in a few seconds in your browser.

For every document we publish. Each document has its own page with its own figures, taken from the authority that issues it. Adding a country is data entry, not development, so the list grows without the software changing.

Private by default. The analysis happens on your device. Your photograph is uploaded only when you decide to buy, and only so the full-size file can be produced.

Honest about limits. Where a requirement cannot be measured reliably, it is reported as a warning rather than a pass, and it never silently becomes a failure that costs you a sale.

Why choose Photo Express?

  • See it before you pay. The crop, the head band and the eye line are drawn over your photo. Nothing is hidden until after the payment.
  • Unlimited attempts. Check as many photographs as you like. Only a photo you decide to buy costs anything.
  • Every figure traceable. Each document page links to the government page its numbers came from, with the date we last checked it.
  • Nothing published on a guess. A specification we have not verified against its issuing authority is not offered for sale at all — the page returns a 404 rather than showing you a figure somebody assumed.
  • Your photo stays yours. Analysed on your device, uploaded only on purchase, and deleted automatically after the retention period.

No submission counts or acceptance rates are shown here. Photo Express has not sold a photograph yet, and a figure invented for a homepage is the one thing a service built on verified measurements cannot afford.

What people say

There are no reviews yet.

Photo Express is new. When photographs bought here have been submitted and accepted — or rejected — those accounts will appear in this space, quoted in full and attributed. Until then there is nothing to show, and an average of nothing is not worth printing.

If you use it, tell us what the issuing office said. Knowing which requirement was involved is how the measurements improve.

Get started in minutes

Pick your document, add a photograph, and read the result. Nothing is required of you before that — no account, no email address, no payment details.

How to take a passport photo

  1. Stand facing a plain, light wall in even daylight, with no strong shadow behind you and nothing on your head unless your document allows it.
  2. Have someone take the photograph from about arm's length at eye level, or use the camera option and follow the on-screen frame.
  3. Look straight at the lens with both eyes open and a neutral expression, or a natural smile where the document permits one.
  4. Open your document's page on this site and add the photograph. The measurements appear in a few seconds.
  5. Fix anything reported as a problem and try again — attempts are free — then buy the file once every requirement is met.

Questions

Is it really free to check?

Yes. Measuring a photograph costs nothing and there is no limit on attempts. You pay only when you have seen a result you want to keep.

What does it cost?

$8.95 for the digital photo, sized exactly to the document's specification. $11.95 adds a printable sheet laid out with cut guides for a home printer or a photo shop.

Where do the requirements come from?

From the authority that issues the document. Each document page shows the figures alongside a link to the page they were taken from and the date we last checked it. If we have not verified a document, we do not publish it.

Is my photograph uploaded?

Not while you are checking it. The measurement runs in your browser and the preview is drawn on your own machine. Your photograph is sent to us only when you choose to buy, so that the full-size file can be produced, and it is deleted automatically afterwards.

What if my photo is rejected?

Tell us which requirement the office named. We will look at the measurement for that job and correct it if the fault is ours. The refund terms are set out on the refunds page.

Can I use it for a baby or a child?

You can check one, but be careful with the result. The measurements are the same, and a photograph of an infant who cannot hold a pose reliably is the case most likely to need a second attempt.

It costs nothing to find out whether the one you have already works.
